Agricultural Engineering
The proposal of Agricultural Engineering resulted from the necessities of the formation of professionals linked to agribussiness matters able to give engineering solutions necessary to the increase in productivity, decrease in costs, involved natural resources preservation and conservation.
UFLA's Agricultural Engineering course aims to prepare professionals with knowledge of the Mechanic, Civil, Electric, Environmental, Agronomic Engineering fields. During the course, students learn how to plan and develop supporting systems to the production, acting in the following areas: irrigation and drainage planning; project and development of agricultural machines and equipment; infrastructure projects for agro-industrial constructions and animal ambience; automation and control systems planning; agricultural production planning and management; agrometereologic monitoring; agricultural crop prediction and climatic zoning; remote sensing and aerial photography at the agricultural planning and at the environmental monitoring; products drying and conservation after cropping, as well as its adequate processing, transport and packing ; rural energizing and generation of alternative systems for agro-energy planning.
This major has strong environmental characteristic, mainly regarding the adequate usage of water and soil resources, working on the maintenance, quality and treatment of liquid waste resulted from the agroindustrial processes. The professionals act in the urban and rural environment and are able to put into practice activities in the federal, state and city public service; in research and experiments bodies; in companies responsible for agricultural machines production, for agricultural mechanizing, for well-fare equipments, and for agricultural products classification; in rural companies planning and management; in teaching; in the computerization of farming production systems, of consultancy and of technical services acting, among others.
