Medicine aims at forming professionals capable of diagnosing and treating human diseases, besides promoting individual and community health. According to 2014's national curricular guidelines, this major aims at habilitating health professionals with generalist, humanistic, critic and reflexive knowledge. Capable of acting guided by ethic principles in the health-disease process and its different levels of attention, with promoting, prevention, recovering and rehabilitation actions for health,  under the perspective of assistance integrality as human integral health promoter. This professional can act on Family and Community Medicine, Medical Consultancy, clinic of  Pediatrics, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Surgery, Mental Health, Urgency and Emergency, among other medical specialties , under social responsibility and citizenship commitment principles.

The formation in these areas is based on classes with theoretical and practical contents in academic, experimental and communitarian environments, in-lab (bio-chemistry, physiology, cell and molecular biology, medical simulation, among others) and also in hospitals.  This major is built under the premise of active methodologies, in which the learning focus is on the student, involving: case studies, integration activities, mentoring, tutoring and health practices regarding the primary attention to the focus on Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS).
