UFLA's Languages major prepares the in-coming professional to deal with a social-historical-economic and cultural context and to act as critical reader and effective agent at citizenship formation, able to make use of language in its different expressions. This formation focus on both Portuguese teaching-learning as mother tongue, and English as second language or foreign language, covering skills and knowledge construction.

This course enable students to cope with multiple cultural identities in Brazilian contexts of Portuguese usage as mother tongue and English, as both specific identity of people and cultures and as language of international movement. This major offers the students the development of critical view of the world and clear perception of the role to be taken in the social-cultural environment, enabling them better for the profession challenges.

The teaching staff has large experience and qualification at developing teaching activities, research projects and extension. The integration of these projects and activities with the classroom since the first moments of formation contributes to a high-quality course. There are many equipped computing laboratories to meet the students, addiction to all the structure presented at the university.
